5 Etiquettes That Are Good To Know Before Visiting Korea

1. Don’t jiggle your legs

Jiggling one’s legs can catch other people’s eyes. Some will find it disturbing. The elders always say, “If you jiggle your legs, luck will fly away.”

2. Don’t blow your nose when eating with others

Many people understand sniffling, but won’t understand blowing your nose in front of food. It’s considered unsanitary.

3. Don’t drink or eat something with loud noise

Some people from other countries have this misconception that making noise when eating is expressing their gratitude in Korea. It’s actually not. It can annoy a lot of people.

4. Don’t lean on one leg when talking to seniors or attending a formal gathering

Leaning on one leg is totally fine when you’re with friends or posing for a picture. But, it can look arrogant and impolite when you’re with older people or attending a formal meeting/gathering.

5. Don’t put your hands in a pocket when talking to seniors or attending a formal gathering

Putting your hands in a pocket can be even more inappropriate than leaning on one leg. Likewise, it’s okay when you’re with friends.
