This Year, 10 Times As Many Foreign Cultural Assets Were Returned To Korea As Last Year

According to the Cultural Heritage Administration, a total of 1,083 overseas cultural assets have been repatriated with the Overseas Cultural Property Foundation this year, amounting to 1,550 items. This is a 10-fold increase from last year, and excludes the return of other organizations such as national museums.

Representative artifacts are as follows :

1. ‘Daedongyeo Map’ returned in March

This is a folding map book created by Kim Jeong-ho, and unlike the ‘Daedongyeo Map’ currently held in Korea, it was supplemented by transcribing the cycle of the ‘Dongyeo Map’.

2. ‘Goryeo Najeonchrysanthemum Vine Pattern Box’ returned in July

There are less than 20 “Goryeo Najeon lacquerware” in the world, and it is valued not only for its high artistic quality but also for its good preservation despite being 800 years old.
