Hello UoH friends. You might have heard or watched “Korean style Chinese food” such as jjajangmyun (black bean sauce noodle) ????????

Here are 3 things you need to know about Korean-Chinese cuisine.

1. So, what’s the Korean-Chinese Cuisine?

Though originaly being derived from Chinese cuisines, Korean-Chinese cuisine consists of unique dishes with Korean style flavors and ingredients. So it’s called ‘a hybrid cuisine’ or ‘fusion cuisine’!

2. When and how Korean-Chinese Cuisine first developed?

The Korean-Chinese Cuisine was developed by the ethnic Chinese living in Korea. It was first developed during 19th century in the port city of Incheon – the place where most of the ethnic Chinese of Korea lived.

3. There are 3 most popular menus of Korean-Chinese dishes

  • Tangsuyuk 탕수육 (Sweet and sour pork)
  • Jjamppong 짬뽕 (Hot spic seafood noodles)
  • Jajangmyeon 짜장면 (Black bean sauce noodle)

There are many great Korean-Chinese restaurents out there in Korea, but we will drop one recommendation here! Myeonghwawon (명화원)

Try their “Glutinous rice sweet and sour pork (찹쌀탕수육)” – it’s a top-notch and you will love it! It is locaed near Samgakji Station Exit 11 in Seoul, Korea.
