In a Cine 21 interview, Song Kang-ho recommended four movies that have made an impact on him in his life, and we’d like to share them with you, ranging from Korean to global. Plus, it’s fun to see posters for Korean versions of foreign movies!
Song Kang-ho is a renowned South Korean actor, one of a troika of Korean male actors credited with ushering in a renaissance in Korean acting in the early 2000s. He became one of the 10 million actors in 2006 with The Host (2006).
This film is said to be Song Kang-ho’s favorite movie. Steve McQueen is also said to be Song Kang-ho’s favorite actor because his acting, charm, small acting, and aura are unforgettable.
Though the film can be depicted as very sad, its unflinching gaze and unassertive face to reality are very impressive.
Obaltan is Korea’s one of the greatest masterpieces, and Song Kang-ho thinks it has had a great cinematic influence on later Korean directors. He says it’s amazing that such a masterpiece was made in the late 50s.
It is a movie that deals with the tragedy of Auschwitz, and although it deals with an enormous tragedy, it is a beautiful film that tells a story about the unshakable beauty and hope of human beings against the backdrop of a true story.
