7 Seoul Masterpieces By World-class Architects

Here Are Seven Iconic Spaces In Seoul By World-class Architects

When you find these spaces in Seoul, enjoy their beauty and uniqueness!

1. DDP

Zaha Hadid created this Seoul landmark with metallic materials and a spaceship-like exterior. The curving, open design creates a landscape that blends space, place, and context without boundaries.

2. Amore Pacific World HQ

Designed by David Chipperfield, the 2023 winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize. He said he had always considered Korean ceramics to be a masterpiece of world culture, and chose the white porcelain moon jar as a motif for the building.

3. Parc 1

The building is also home to Seoul’s most talked-about department store, The Hyundai Seoul, consists of three buildings for accommodation, retail, and business. It is the work of architect Richard Rogers, who also designed the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

4. Kyobo Tower

When you think of “red brick” in Gangnam, Seoul, you think of Kyobo Tower. Completed in 2003 and now more than 20 years old, it was Mario Botta’s first project in Korea. The red brick finish on the otherwise plain rectangular building sets it apart from the many neutral coloured glass buildings around in Gangnam. It consists of two 25-story towers, with glass walkways between them designed to allow for natural light.

5. Leeum

Leeum, the Samsung Museum of Art, consists of three buildings. Mario Botta, Jean Nouvel and Rem Koolhaas each designed these buildings.

6. LG Arts Centre

Winner of the Grand Prize at the 41st Seoul Architecture Awards. The organic connection with surrounding resources such as Seoul Botanic Garden Square and the subway was well considered, and the technical needs such as sound diffusion and reflection were well met.

7. ECC (Ewha Campus Complex) Facilities

Opened in 2008, the ECC Facilities at Ewha Womans University’s main entrance was a new venture for Korean university campuses. Its aesthetic, architectural and eco-friendly features have attracted much public attention. Dominique Perrault proposed a subterranean space between the main entrance of the university and the existing architecture.
