Seoul City will launch a “Climate Card”
in the first half of next year, offering unlimited rides on all public transportation, including the Seoul subway, city and town buses, and public bicycle tandems, for 65,000 won per month.
It is said to be a policy to increase the “public transportation mode share” that has decreased due to COVID and to respond to the climate crisis. The service will be available as a smartphone app and a physical card, with the physical card costing an initial 3,000 won to purchase and 65,000 won to recharge each month.
The Climate Card allows users to use all subway lines 1 through 9 in Seoul, including Gyeongui-Jungang Line, Bundang Line, Gyeongchun Line, Ui Sinseol Line, and Sillim Line. Except for the Shinbundang Line, which has a different base fare.
It will also be expanded to include the next generation of green transportation, such as water buses, in future.
Similarly, Paris already has a climate ticket with a 72.9 euro monthly pass, and Austria has a 1,095 euro annual pass.
K Dao says:
Curious if it will include Incheon line 1 as well?
UoHorang says:
The announcement was for Seoul lines only, but we’ll update when it is official in the end of 2023!
