A Korean-American female disability rights activist was selected to be one of five people to appear on the new 25-cent coin in 2025. It’s part of the American Women Quarters Program, which recognizes 20 women who have achieved extraordinary things in modern American history.
Born in 1987, Stacey Park Milbern (May 19, 1987 – May 19, 2020) was a Korean-American disability rights activist. Stacey was a well-known leader in the campaign for disability rights. Her advocacy also included people of color, gay people, and homeless people, three groups who are frequently marginalized, in addition to those with disabilities.
Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) has created designs for each figure, which are being reviewed by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC). In the case of Stacey Park Milbern, the coin will feature her sitting in a wheelchair and smiling. The coins will be produced at the Mint’s facilities in Philadelphia and Denver.
