A Korean Movie To Watch If You Liked ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’: 말아톤(Marathon)

Many people pick ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ as the best K-drama in 2022.

The audience loved watching Woo Young-woo, a rookie attorney with autism spectrum disorder, communicating with the world in her own way.

If you enjoyed watching it, here is a Korean movie that you might want to check out.

말아톤 Marathon

Released on 2005, the movie ‘말아톤’, based on a true story, talks about a 20-year-old man Yoon Cho-won, with autism spectrum disorder who loves running a marathon, and his mother who takes care of him.

Cho-won has a 5-year-old intelligence but he’s exceptional in running a marathon. The movie does an excellent job describing how Cho-won communicates with society through a marathon.

When the movie was released, many people believed that the director casted an actor with real autistic disorder. Cho Seung-woo, who played the main character, was that good in acting.

A marathon is written as 마라톤 in Korean.

But why is the title spelled as ‘말아톤’?

It was referenced from the story that the main character wrote ‘말아톤’ in his ‘to-do list’ in his diary.

  • Released year : 2005
  • Running time : 117 minutes

  • Starring : Cho Seung-woo, Kim Mi-sook, Lee Ki-young, Back Sung-hyun, and more
