As the 2024 Paris Olympics opened, an upsetting incident occurred where South Korea was introduced as North Korea. South Korea‘s official name in French is ”République de Corée,“ and in English, it is ”Republic of Korea.“ However, as the South Korean athletes were entering, the announcer mistakenly used the term ”République populaire démocratique de Corée“ and ”Democratic People’s Republic of Korea,“ which refers to North Korea.

North Korea, which entered 153rd, had its name called correctly, but it was announced twice, resulting in confusion.
