Yang Jung Uk expresses his vision of life through moving sculptures, infusing warmth and narrative into his works. The jurors commented, ”The work reminds us once again of the power of art to offer comfort,“ and ”The connection and interaction between large-scale pieces and humble works made from the leftovers of his process are deeply moving.“As a result, Yang Jung Uk will receive a 50 million KRW creation support fund awarded to the nominated artists, along with an additional 10 million KRW granted to the final winner.
His work, along with those of other nominated artists Yoon Jiyoung, Kwon Hayoun, and Jane Jin Kaisen, will be on display at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul until March 23, 2025.
The ”Korea Artist Prize“ has been a part of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea’s program since 2012, supported by the SBS Foundation. Every year, the prize selects four artists, supporting the creation of new works and exhibitions, as well as expanding their international activities, in an effort to promote the development of contemporary Korean art. Unlike previous exhibitions that focused solely on new works, since 2023, the prize has included both new and earlier works by the artists, offering a broader exploration of their artistic worlds.
