At 11 Am On January 12, 2024, A Group Of Artists Held A Press Conference To Demand The Truth Behind The Death Of Actor Lee Sun-kyun, Who Died Under Police Investigation For Allegedly Taking Drugs

The statement was read by actor Kim Eui-sung, director Bong Joon-ho, singer Yoon Jong-shin, and director Lee Won-tae on behalf of the group.

🔹Actor Kim Eui-sung

• Lee Sun-kyun exposed to the media without protection for two months
• The entire process was broadcast live – Personal recordings unrelated to the case were released to the public
• Kim Eui-sung felt it is his duty to his colleague Lee Sun-kyun to take a stance on the heinous murder of a personality

🔹Director Bong Joon-ho

• Calls for truth about security on investigation
• Need to investigate whether there was any improper media handling
• Need to clarify how information was provided
- Media relations and co-operation should be within the law
• Should investigate the investigation process thoroughly to prevent this from happening in the future

🔹Singer Yoon Jong Shin

• Questioned whether media coverage of the deceased’s internal affairs was in the public interest Questioned the media’s overemphasis on the private lives of individuals
• Requests that reports of the deceased’s private circumstances, which are unrelated to the facts of the allegations, be removed.
• Sensationalist news from YouTubers requires midnight censorship

🔹Director Lee Won-tae

• The government and National Assembly should not remain silent on this incident
• Need to review laws to protect human rights
• Need for clearer legislation between human rights and people’s right to know

📭 Future Plans

1. We will create a solidarity group for the entire cultural and artistic community to come together on any issue.
2. We will continue future activities of the cultural and artistic people’s coalition.
3. As announced in the statement, we will call for legal security to prevent unjustified damage.
4. We will deliver the statement to the National Police Agency and KBS.
5. We will actively cooperate with all like-minded organization for the financing of the Lee Sun-kyun law and actively reflect the opinions expressed by each organization.
