Busan, South Korea, Has Lost Bid To Host The 2030 World Expo

On the afternoon of November 28, 2023, the Busan city received 29 votes in the bid selection vote at the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) 173rd General Assembly in Paris, France, falling far behind first-place Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which received 119 votes. Third-place Rome, Italy, received 17 votes.

The South Korean Government Expressed Regret And Disappointment After Losing By A Much Larger Margin Than Expected

In a press conference after the vote, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said, “I apologize for not being able to fully respond to the support of the people. I humbly accept the result. We will continue to develop new diplomatic assets gained from traveling to 182 BIE member countries.”
