On November 24, Korea played its first match against Uruguay. It played out a 0-0 draw. Korea will compete against Ghana on November 28 and against Portugal on December 3.

Korea’s star player Son Heungmin (the Tottenham Hotspur forward) had undergone surgery after colliding with an opposite defender during a UEFA Champions League match. But, he was eager and ready to play in the World Cup with a face mask, which made him look like a superhero!

Korea’s best performance was at the 2002 World Cup, when Korea reached the semi final against Germany. Korea became the first Asian country to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup. The head coach, Guus Hiddink, became the first person to be given honorary Korean citizenship by hugely contributing to the team.
