Countries Around the World Have Issued Travel Advisories for South Korea

South Korea Has Long Been Viewed As A Country with A High Reputation for Public Safety

However, due to the declaration of a state of emergency by South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on December 3, 2024, travel advisories for South Korea were issued by various countries on December 4, 2024. News of this event spread rapidly across global media, and major countries issued these advisories in the interest of protecting their citizens.

The U.S. State Department stated, ”Expect potential unrest. Peaceful protests could escalate into confrontations and violence. Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place,“ and it was reported that U.S. Embassy staff in Seoul were instructed to work from home.

In addition, countries such as the UK, Canada, Japan, Singapore, and Ukraine sent warning messages to their citizens through their respective embassies‘ social media channels. They advised nationals staying in South Korea to remain at home or stay updated with local information until the situation becomes clearer.
