Before BTS performed at the Grammys and Korean food received worldwide attention, Koreans, especially Korean journalists, were curious about how much people from other countries know about Korea and its culture.
Whenever Korean journalists and reporters had a chance to interview someone famous from other countries, they asked something like, “Do you know (something or someone famous from Korea)?” It was a question to see if one had ever heard anything about Korea.
But the funny thing was that these questions were too random and irrelevant for the interviews. That’s when the “Do You Know Club” was created as a sarcastic joke among Koreans. But as Korean culture has become famous around the world, the club is nowadays recognized as a “Hall of Fame.”
Many different categories are included in the “Do You Know Club”, such as people, characters, TV shows, K-pop bands, etc. Today, we want to share some of the people who made Korea proud. (Of course, there are so many people who have made Korea proud and we selected a few of them.)
