MMCA Film & Video is an annual program exploring the history and evolution of film and art since the 20th century. This year’s theme, “Defining Relationships,” reflects on the global changes brought by the past two years of the pandemic. Through a diverse selection of films, the program invites viewers to question the familiar and explore new perspectives. “Human & Nature: From Romance to Horror” examines the relationship between nature and humanity, featuring works by eight artists presented in three parts.
In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Impressionism, in collaboration with the Worcester Art Museum in the U.S., the Worcester Exhibition will be held at The Hyundai Seoul ALT.1 in Yeouido, Seoul, starting February 15, 2025. This exhibition will showcase 53 original masterpieces by 39 Impressionist painters from the Worcester Art Museum’s collection, offering an opportunity to view works reinterpreted through light and color.
Leeum Museum is launching the new year’s first curated exhibition with the first museum solo show in Korea by internationally acclaimed artist Pierre Huyghe. The exhibition features new works co-produced with the Pinault Collection and Punta della Dogana, and it explores ecosystems where humans and non-humans coexist through various media including video, sound, sculpture, and installation.
Art Sonje Center is hosting the exhibition “Ha Chong Hyun 5975,” which focuses on Ha Chong Hyun’s early works from 1959 to 1975. The exhibition explores how the artist responded to and evolved amid the turbulent historical backdrop of the Korean War, rapid industrialization, and urbanization through his use of materials and painting techniques, showcasing his experimental attempts to reconfigure both social reality and personal experience.
Gallery Hyundai is celebrating its 55th anniversary in 2025 with solo exhibitions by artists such as Shin Sung Hy and Kim Minjung. The inaugural exhibition in February is “Shin Sung Hy: Couturage, Nouage,” focusing on the late artist’s renowned series ‘Couturage’ (Stitched Paintings) and ‘Nouage’ (Knotted Paintings). This marks Shin’s first solo exhibition in three years, following his successful show at Palazzo Caboto during the 2024 Venice Biennale.
The exhibition titled “Orange Container” combines “orange,” symbolizing sensory experiences, with “container,” meaning to hold or include. The artist aims to encapsulate experimental methods from the past 2-3 years into a single canvas to define future artistic direction. This solo exhibition will feature works that traverse the boundaries of pictorial space.
