CGV Is Holding A “Culture Week,” Where You Can Watch Movies For 7,000 Korean Won
The promotion runs from August 26 to 29, 2024, and is valid only for regular 2D films shown from 5 PM to 9 PM. Certain films and special screenings are excluded. If you have already booked a movie during this period, you can cancel and rebook to receive the “Culture Week” price.
Three of Our Favorite CGV Locations
1. CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall
CGV’s flagship store. It is the largest CGV location, with 20 screens and 3,888 seats. It offers a very comfortable experience and frequently hosts pop-up stores. Located in the large I’Park Mall, it is also great for shopping and enjoying a delicious meal before or after your visit.
2. CGV Yeouido
The Yeouido location opened in August 2012, on the same day as the IFC Mall’s opening. It features many smaller 2D theaters that are great for focusing on the film. There are also several theaters with excellent sound quality. Being located within the mall, it’s convenient to watch a movie after enjoying a delicious meal.
3. CGV Cheongdam Cine City
All the theaters have a unique atmosphere due to their special design. Moreover, I particularly enjoy the view of the Gangnam area through the round windows.
What is CGV?
CGV is a leading multiplex cinema chain in South Korea, operated by CJ Group. It was established in 1996 through a joint venture between Cheil Jedang Group, Hong Kong Golden Harvest Entertainment (currently known as Orange Sky Golden Harvest Entertainment Ltd), and Australia’s Village Roadshow Pictures. The name “CGV” was derived from the first letters of each partner’s name. However, Golden Harvest Entertainment withdrew its shares in 2000, and Village Roadshow Pictures followed in 2002. Since then, CGV has been operated solely by CJ Group. The company’s name changed from CJ Gold Village to CJ Village, and eventually to CGV. To more clearly indicate its affiliation with CJ Group after the withdrawal of shares in 2002, the name was changed to CJ CGV. It is the only cinema chain in South Korea to offer IMAX facilities.
