Intensive Bed Bug Inspection Period Will Be Starting From November 13th in Korea

The South Korean Government Will Run An Intensive Bed Bug Inspection For Four Weeks From Nov. 13 To Dec. 8., 2023

The government plans to intensively inspect bed bug outbreaks in vulnerable facilities under its jurisdiction and carry out prompt control work upon detection.

It’s Been A Long Time Since South Korea Has Had Such A Bed Bug Problem

For about 10 years, starting in 2014, there were only nine bed bug-related reports to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency. However, as of November 5, the number of reports of found or suspected bed bugs to local governments and public health centers in Seoul was 17.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency‘s countermeasures headquarters is creating a nationwide status report to be used for on-the-ground countermeasures but is cautiously considering whether to disclose the fact that bed bugs have appeared in a specific facility, as it may cause secondary damage.

More Effective Insecticides Will Be Introduced Next Week

Regarding the lack of effectiveness of bed bug insecticides (pyrethroid series) currently approved in Korea, the Ministry of Health and Welfare will simultaneously pursue emergency use approval next week to introduce insecticides (neonicotinoids) whose effectiveness and safety have been guaranteed abroad as soon as possible.

Increased Avoidance Of Movie Theaters, Hotels, And Gyms

With the outbreak of bed bugs in Seoul, many people are expressing their ‘bed bug phobia’. In particular, people are refusing to use movie theaters, subways, and buses.
