Introducing New Year’s Card from Cultural Heritage Administration of KOREA

What is the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea?

CHA (Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea) is the South Korean government agency with the mission of preserving and promoting Korean cultural heritage.

It is headquartered in the city of Daejeon at the Daejeon Government Complex. Previously part of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, it was elevated to a sub-ministerial agency in 1999.

In celebration of 2023, the year of the black rabbit, the CHA OF Korea publicly shared digital files of New Year’s cards.

The design reminds us of the traditional craft technique called mother-of-pearl lacquerware. This technique is in which abalone or shells are cut and attached with lacquer.

In the postcard image, the rabbit holds a lucky bag with a smile.
