June 25, 2024 – Today Marks the 74th Anniversary of the Korean War

Today marks the 74th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War on June 25th.

President Yoon Suk-yeol attended his first June 25th commemoration ceremony since taking office and stated, ”The government will firmly protect the freedom and democracy of the Republic of Korea and the lives of our citizens against North Korea‘s provocations and threats. After the war, all that remained was a land of despair, but our great people did not give up. Following the Korean War, our national income was a mere $67, but now we are on the verge of a $40,000 era, and last year, for the first time, we surpassed Japan.“ He highlighted the country’s progress since the war.

He continued, ”The Republic of Korea‘s military will maintain a solid state of readiness so that North Korea will not dare to challenge the Republic of Korea under any circumstances, and will respond overwhelmingly and resolutely to North Korean provocations. Strong power and an ironclad security posture are the paths to protecting the nation and its people and achieving true peace on this land.“

The Korean War

The Korean War was a war on the Korean Peninsula that began at dawn on June 25, 1950, when the North Korean communist forces illegally invaded across the entire 38th parallel, which was the military demarcation line between North and South Korea.
