K-ETA : One Thing You Must Apply Before You Travel to Korea

When you visit Korea, if you’re passing by the Sinchon area or visiting Yonsei University,
we recommend you to visit this cafe: 독수리 다방

독수리 다방 (Doksuri Dabang)

독수리 (eagle) + 다방 (coffee shop)

Located near Yonsei University, it opened as a music cafe in 1971. It was a famous place for college students and people living near the Sinchon area to gather around and hangout in the 70s and 80s. It’s often called Dok Dabang.

“Let’s meet in front of Doksuri Dabang at 7pm this Friday.”

This is what people back in the days would say to friends. Before the mobile phone was invented by Martin Cooper, Doksuri Dabang was a meeting point.

Whenever people couldn’t keep their promise, they would leave a note on the wall of the cafe.

One of the walls is still decorated with notes.

As many other cafes were created nearby Yonsei University, it was closed in 2005. Then, the grandson of the first-generation founder reopened the cafe in 2013. It’s still loved by college students and locals today.
