LYSÉE is a pastry boutique operated by a pastry chef and founder Eunji Lee. The name is a combination of chef’s surname ‘Lee’ and the French word for museum, ‘Musée.’ The boutique has a two-story layout where customers can enjoy desserts on the second floor and purchase drinks and menu items in a gift shop-like space on the first floor.
Eunji, born in Korea, studied and worked in France starting in 2006 before settling in New York in 2015. She is known for her desserts that blend the cultures of Korea, France, and New York, earning her the nickname ‘Korean French New Yorker.’ The desserts at LYSÉE feature a harmonious mix of these influences, appealing both visually and in taste.
One of her signature items is a mousse cake inspired by traditional Korean roof tiles, made with roasted brown rice. Other offerings include buckwheat cookies and mini cakes featuring yuja (a type of citrus fruit). The interior decor of the store incorporates traditional Korean elements, using wooden columns and stones from traditional Korean houses, and mother-of-pearl inlays on the walls.
