Korean Music Artist Who Defines Gen-Z : Lee Young Ji

“Gen Z”

Generation Z, or Gen Z, is the demographic cohort in-between Millennials and Generation Alpha (a term used for people born between 1996 – 2010.) 

Gen Z people are the first digital natives, which means smartphones have been there ever since they were born.

???? Who is Lee Young Ji (이영지)?

Lee Young Ji is a 21-year-old rapper who first appeared in the Korean hip-hop scene in 2019. She participated in the teenagers’ rap competition “High School Rapper Season 3” and won first place. She was the first female rapper to be #1.

In 2022, she also participated in Korea’s most renowned rap competition, “Show Me the Money Season 11” and got first place.

By winning the competition, she earned the titles “The first female rapper to win ‘Show Me the Money’” and “The first rapper to win both of the competitions.”

With an expressive, confident, loud, active, and vivid personality, she is one of the representative figures of Gen Z in Korea. She appears in a lot of different programs on TV and YouTube.

She has her own YouTube Channel and YouTube interview show called “차린건 쥐뿔도 없지만” (No Prepare), where many famous celebrities, such as Jin of BTS and Key of SHINee, visited. She also comes out on TV. The most famous one, as of 2022, is Earth Arcade.

Interestingly, in Korea, we use the term “MZ 세대”, meaning “Millennials and Gen Z”, to refer to younger generations in general.
