Koreans’ love for tteokbokki is legendary—and among all the options, the franchise YeopTteok (Yeopgi Tteokbokki) stands out. In Korean, the word “Yeopgi” originally means “bizarre, unusual, or surprising behavior or personality.” Simply put, it can be interpreted as “peculiar, strange, or quirky.”
It’s so popular that it’s practically used as a verb: you might hear someone say, “Shall we go YeopTteok today?” When stress hits or cravings for something spicy strike, ordering this iconic dish via delivery apps has become almost a national pastime.
Now, YeopTteok is launching a low-sugar version, dubbed “Light YeopTteok.” The healthier option will be available for their signature Yeopgi Tteokbokki and Yeopgi Dakbokkeumtang (spicy chicken stew), but not for their rose, mala, or chicken feet varieties. The new option will be added to the existing spice levels and will roll out nationwide starting September 9, 2025. So, are you a tteokbokki fan too? We’re curious which flavors you’d like to try.
