
1. Born in 1982, Kim Min-hee was cast as a model in 1998 while she was a high school freshman. She debuted in the entertainment industry as a fashion magazine model and quickly gained attention for her tall stature, extremely slim figure, and fashionable style. She became a role model for teenage girls, the main readership of fashion magazines at the time.
2. In 1999, Kim Min-hee began her acting career by taking on the role of the troublesome Shin Hye-won in the Korean drama “School 2.” She then officially embarked on her acting journey with the film “Asako in Ruby Shoes,” directed by E J-yong, in 2000.
3. Starting in 2006, Kim Min-hee began to establish herself more prominently as an actress. In particular, her performance as Cha Kyung-sun, a character who struggles to escape her past and lives in constant anxiety, in the 2012 film “Helpless” garnered significant attention in the film industry for her mature acting skills. This was likely when she began earning the reputation of being a highly skilled actress among filmmakers and critics.
4. In 2016, Kim Min-hee was cast as the lead in Park Chan-wook‘s film The Handmaiden, which became the first Korean film in four years to be officially invited to the Cannes Film Festival’s Competition section. Director Park praised her, saying she delivered an outstanding performance with her own unique interpretation. She also won the Best Actress award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards.
5. In 2017, Kim Min-hee appeared in both of Hong Sang-soo‘s films “Claire’s Camera” and “The Day After,” which were invited to the 70th Cannes Film Festival, further demonstrating her continued acting talent.
6. In August 2024, Kim Min-hee received the Best Performance Award at the Locarno International Film Festival, one of the world’s top six film festivals, for her role in Hong Sang-soo’s latest film “By the Stream.” She expressed her gratitude to Hong Sang-soo, the film’s director and her partner, saying, ‘To the director who made such a beautiful film, I love your work. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of it.’
