August 15 : National Liberation Day of Korea (Gwangbokjeol)

Today is Gwangbokjeol (광복절; Korea’s National Liberation Day), which commemorates the day Korea was liberated from 35 years of Japanese imperialism. ????????

☑️ 77 years ago today, August 15, 1945, Korea regained its liberation from Japan as Japanese Emperor Hirohito declared Japan’s surrender in the Pacific War on the radio of the Japan Broadcasting Association.

☑️ On September 2, 1945, the Japanese foreign affairs minister signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender.

☑️ The US military base was established in the Yongsan area, the independent activists were released from the Seodaemun prison, and the Japanese forces withdrew to Japan.
