North Korea has resumed its provocative trash-carrying balloons after a 25-day hiatus. This marks the 12th such incident this year, with balloons launched last night (September 5, 2024) and again this morning and afternoon (September 6, 2024).
In total, approximately 480 waste balloons were launched from last night through this morning, with around 100 of them landing in Seoul and the northern part of Gyeonggi Province. A fire believed to have been caused by one of these balloons occurred on the roof of an underground parking lot in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. Last month, a fire broke out in a mountainous area in Paju, and in July, a fire occurred on the roof of a multi-family housing unit in Goyang. The fires are thought to have been caused by delayed detonation of explosive devices attached to the balloons.
Meanwhile, the Marine Corps conducted training exercises by firing approximately 390 rounds of K-9 self-propelled howitzers and Cheonmu multiple rocket launchers from the sea off Baekryeongdo and Yeonpyeongdo.
