One of the world’s largest galleries, Gagosian, has announced its first exhibition in Korea. This exhibition will feature new works by Derrick Adams and will be held at the Amore Pacific headquarters, designed by David Chipperfield. Additionally, Derrick Adams’ new painting series will be unveiled during the exhibition.
John Pai, a first-generation Korean American artist, is holding a solo exhibition in Korea for the first time in over a decade since his 2013 exhibition. This exhibition highlights over 70 years of his artistic journey, featuring early steel sculptures influenced by figurative art from the early 1960s, along with key wire sculptures, drawings, and paintings. Approximately 40 selected works will showcase the breadth of his oeuvre.
Pace Gallery will host a two-artist exhibition, Correspondence: Lee Ufan and Mark Rothko, at its Seoul gallery. The exhibition will span two floors, featuring selected works from Lee Ufan’s Dialogue and Response series (2018–2023) alongside major works by Mark Rothko from the 1950s and 1960s in a conversational format.
White Cube Seoul is hosting a solo exhibition by renowned Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco. Based in Tokyo, Mexico City, and Paris, Orozco explores conceptual art through various media inspired by his surroundings. This exhibition features new leaf prints created with gouache and graphite on paper, extending his Diarios des Plantas (Plant Diary) series from 2021 and 2022.
Utopia : Nowhere, Now Here features artist Kim Cho-yeop along with seven surrealist artists from both Korea and abroad, showcasing their unique perspectives and techniques in expressing utopia. The works on display come in various forms, including 3D art, digital collages, and motion graphics, inviting viewers to experience how these surrealist artists reinterpret the concept of utopia in their own distinctive ways.
Kukje Gallery presents Michael Joo’s solo exhibition “Soft Skills and Underground Whispers” at K2. The artist explores perception, identity, and liminality at the intersection of art and science, focusing on exchanges and connections in everyday perception. The title highlights hidden networks and invisible relationships, emphasizing an interest in “soft skills.”
Kukje Gallery will hold a solo exhibition of Ham Kyungah from August 30 to November 3 at its K1, K3, and Hanok locations. Titled “Phantom and A Map,” the exhibition presents the artist’s perspective and experiences of contemporary society, structured into three movements.
The MMCA’s interdisciplinary art project 2024, titled Space Elevator, explores the sensory experience related to the alternate reality of space. It raises questions about the reasons and methodologies for humanity to leave a self-sufficient Earth for the new reality of space. While the concept of the ‘space elevator’ may seem unfamiliar, it has been an intriguing idea that has been technically examined for quite some time.
