The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) officially begins the “Voluntary Reporting for Animal Registration” from July 1 to August 31, 2022.

The animal registration system has the purpose of activating the animal registration system in Korea. Through the system, people register dog information with the city, country, and designated district offices to protect the animals and prevent loss and abandonment.

This system is eligible for dogs with an age of two months or more, and that are raised in houses for companion purposes. As of the end of last year, about 2.78 million dogs were registered on this system in Korea.

A fine of less than KRW 1 million will be imposed if the animal is not registred, and KRW 500,000 or less will be imposed if registered changes to the registration information are not reported.

MAFRA will be tightly crackding down on whether animals are wearing identification tags, and maintaining the length of the leash within two meters. This will be focusing on parks and walking paths from September 1 to September 30.
