Robert Pattinson, who visited South Korea to promote his upcoming film Mickey 17, in which he stars under director Bong Joon-ho, had the chance to experience Korean culture. A video shared on the official Instagram account for Mickey 17 captured Pattinson and Bong Joon-ho visiting a famous tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) restaurant in Yongsan, Seoul. The duo ordered a variety of dishes, including two bowls of tteokbokki, eomuk (fish cake), sundae (Korean blood sausage), and assorted fried foods.
In the video, Bong pushed a spicier version of tteokbokki toward Pattinson, jokingly calling it ”mild“ and urging him to try it. After taking a bite, Pattinson appeared visibly surprised by the heat, laughing as he said, ”It’s definitely spicy. This is the mild version?“ Bong later sampled the tteokbokki himself, admitting, ”It’s quite spicy. Even I find it hard to eat. How did you manage it?“ Pattinson, still smiling, remarked, ”The spiciness doesn’t go away.“
Pattinson also explored Korean trends by receiving a personal color analysis. The video showed him trying various fabric swatches to find the colors that best suited him. Meanwhile, Mickey 17 is Bong Joon-ho‘s first Hollywood film, based on the novel Mickey 7 by American author Edward Ashton. The story follows Mickey, a character tasked with colonizing an ice-covered planet. Each time Mickey dies during a mission, he is replaced by a cloned version of himself. The plot unfolds when the 17th Mickey remains alive as the 18th clone is created. The film is set to release in South Korea on February 28, 2025.
