
[Safety Notice] Seoul Civil Defense Drill will be available for 20 minutes today starting at 2 p.m. Citizens will be evacuated underground. And traffic will be controlled between Seoul Station and Sejongdae-ro, Gwangheungchang Station and Yeo 2-gyo, and Haegye Station and Junghwa Station.
It’s been six years since a general public participation national civil defense drill in Korea. The drill will be held for 20 minutes starting at 2 p.m. today, and the control of vehicle movement will last 25 minutes.
The objective of this civil defense exercise is to learn how to immediately evacuate in the case of an air attack, including a missile provocation from North Korea.
Lee Sang-min, minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, presides over the first situation report meeting for the 2023 Eulji drill at the Seoul Situation Center at the Government Complex in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on Aug. 21.
However, 57 areas declared as special disaster areas will be excluded from the drill. These areas include 12 cities, counties, and one county in Sejong, Chungbuk, Chungnam, North Jeolla, and North Gyeongsang provinces that were severely damaged by torrential rains last month, and 10 cities, counties, and 34 towns, villages, and cities in Gangwon, Chungbuk, Chungnam, North Jeolla, and North Gyeongsang provinces that were damaged by Typhoon Khanun this month.
