Seoul’s Iconic Character, HECHI, Has Gotten A Makeover After 15 Years

The city of Seoul unveiled the new HECHI design at DDP Seoul in the form of a large 8-meter-high art balloon. In the future, HECHI and Soul Friends sculptures will also be installed at major Seoul landmarks such as Namsan Seoul Tower and Han River parks.

What Changes Have Been Made To HECHI?

– The color of HETCHI has changed from yellow to pink.
– Added more indigo blue to the ears, arms, and tail of HECHI.

Why Did The City Of Seoul Make tTe Change?

The city of Seoul explained that the new design is trendy and appealing to the current generation. The HECHI character was first announced in 2009 and has been actively promoted through songs, animations, and merchandise. However, its use has gradually decreased over the past decade, with awareness dropping to 30% in 2021. After all, the city redesigned HECHI after 15 years to reintroduce it and secure its competitiveness.

What Is HECHI?

HECHI is a city symbol designated by Oh Se-hoonm, mayor of Seoul, in 2008. HECHI is a synonym for “Haetae,” a goat-like creature, an East Asian imaginary animal that is said to judge right and wrong.
