South Korean pianist Lim Yunchan (임윤찬) has won both the Piano Recording and Young Artist categories at the Gramophone Classical Music Awards, the world‘s most prestigious classical music awards, becoming a double winner. He is the first Korean pianist to receive a Gramophone award.
Remarkably, two of the three final nominees in the Piano category were recordings by Lim Yunchan. His albums, ”F. Liszt, Transcendental Études“ and ”Frédéric Chopin, Études,“ competed against each other, with ”Frédéric Chopin, Études“ winning by just one vote. It is also the first time in history that a single artist has had two recordings in the final nominations.
The Gramophone Classical Music Awards are regarded as the most prestigious awards in the field of classical recordings and are often referred to as the ”Oscars of classical music.“ Previous winners in the instrumental category include legendary pianists such as Maurizio Pollini, Alfred Brendel, Murray Perahia, and Bengt Forsberg.
Pianist Lim Yunchan debuted at the Kumho Young Artist Concert, hosted by the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation, in 2015 at the age of 11. We sincerely congratulate him on his success and look forward to his future endeavors.
