South Korea’s passport power has been ranked 39th in the world in the 2025 Passport Index released by global consulting firm Nomad Capitalist, marking a drop of seven places from 32nd last year. Ireland claimed the top spot, followed by Switzerland and Greece in joint second place. Portugal ranked fourth, while Malta and Italy shared fifth. Notably, nine of the top ten countries were European.

Meanwhile, Japan and Malaysia ranked joint 37th, the United States came in at 45th, China at 119th, and North Korea at 192nd. The index evaluates passport power based on visa-free travel, taxation of citizens, perception, dual citizenship, and personal freedom. South Korea’s Nomad Passport Score rose to 11th place in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, but has dropped to 39th this year. Of all the factors that determine passport power, which one do you find the most important?
