From September 30, 2024, walking dogs along Cheonggyecheon Stream in Seoul will be allowed. The city will operate a three-month pilot project until the end of the year, permitting pets in certain sections of Cheonggyecheon. The designated area where dogs are allowed is about 4.1 km, stretching from Hwanghakgyo downstream in Dongdaemun-gu to the confluence with Jungnangcheon in Seongdong-gu. Since this trial section connects with Seongbukcheon and Jeongneungcheon, it is expected to be suitable for walking.

Cheonggyecheon is the only stream in Seoul where pets have been prohibited. According to the Ordinance on the Use and Management of Cheonggyecheon, pet entry has been restricted, except for service dogs for people with disabilities.According to the Seoul city government, the growing pet population has led to increasing demands from citizens to walk their dogs along Cheonggyecheon, though there is also some opposition. Through this pilot project, the city plans to gather feedback from residents. When visiting Cheonggyecheon with a dog, a leash of 1.5 meters or shorter must be used.
