The 5 Festivals Worth Visiting in South Korea in October 2024

Traveling in Korea and exploring local festivals is a wonderful way to experience the country. These days, even the younger generation enjoys visiting festivals that have been celebrated for many years. Today, the UoH team introduces five of them.

1. Jongno Hanbok Festival (종로 한복 축제)

• Dates : 2024.10.11. (Fri) ~ 2024.10.12. (Sat)
• Location : Gwanghwamun Square

The Jongno Hanbok Festival, now in its 9th year, is a representative brand festival of Jongno-gu held every fall since 2016 to promote the beauty of Hanbok and its popularization. The 2024 Jongno Hanbok Festival will be held in October at Gwanghwamun Square and Uijeongbu Historic Heritage Square, featuring a variety of programs such as exhibitions, experiences, sales, and tours that combine Hanbok with tradition, starting with the opening ceremony and a themed fashion show.

2. Pre-Historic Culture Festvial of Gangdong (강동선사문화축제)

• Dates : 2024.10.11. (Fri) ~ 2024.10.13. (Sun) 10AM – 10PM
• Location : Amsa-dong Prehistoric Museum Site (875, Olympic-ro, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea)

This festival, representing South Korea’s Neolithic era (over 6,000 years ago), attracts more than 400,000 visitors every October on average. This year marks its 29th edition.

3. Icheon Rice Cultural Festival (이천 쌀 문화 축제)

• Location : Icheon Agircultural Theme Park (48, Gongwon-ro, Moga-myeon, Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea)

The Icheon Rice Cultural Festival is a comprehensive cultural tourism festival centered around rice, a staple food of South Korea and a representative specialty of Icheon, which boasts the best quality rice in the nation. This festival offers younger generations the opportunity to experience traditional agricultural culture while providing a nostalgic atmosphere for adults, featuring a variety of diverse and entertaining events.

4. Goyang Autumn Flower Festival (고양시 가을 꽃 축제)

• Dates : 2024.10.01. (Tue) ~ 2024.10.13. (Sun)
• Location : 595, Hosu-ro, Ilsandong-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea

The 2024 Goyang Autumn Flower Festival aims to create an outdoor exhibition space filled with the essence of autumn. It contributes to the revitalization of the floral culture industry in Goyang by showcasing locally produced flowers, setting up photo zones, and arranging autumn flower beds. This event is designed to boost the local economy and enhance the city’s brand value as a floral tourism destination.

5. Anheung Steameed Bun Festival (안흥찐빵축제)

• Location : Anheung Steamed Bun Village (1868, Jucheongang-ro, Anheung-myeon, Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon-do, South Korea)

The Anheung Steamed Bun Festival is a food festival held every autumn in the Anheung Steamed Bun Village in Anheung-myeon, Gangwon-do. The festival promotes the region’s signature delicacy, “Anheung Steamed Bun,” and hosts a variety of cultural events.
