The Annual Export Value of Korean Snacks Could Reach 1 Trillion Won for the First Time

What is your favorite Korean snack? With more consumers around the world seeking out Korean snacks such as Pepero and Honey Butter Chip, Korean snack exports have reached a record high this year. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on September 23, 2024, the export value of Korean snack products from January to last month was $494.2 million, an increase of 15.4% compared to the same period last year. The annual export value of snacks grew 1.5 times in five years, from $431.4 million (about 576.6 billion won) in 2018 to $656.4 million (about 877.3 billion won) last year.

The ministry expects the value to exceed $700 million (935.6 billion won) for the first time this year, and some in the industry predict that exports could reach as much as 1 trillion won. Meanwhile, snacks are the third-largest export item in the agricultural sector, following ramyeon and tobacco/electronic cigarettes.
