The Apgujeong Hyundai Apartments in Seoul Are Finally Being Redeveloped

The Apgujeong Hyundai Apartments In Gangnam District, Seoul, Are Finally Being Redeveloped After 42 Years Since Their Completion In 1982

Located in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul, the Apgujeong Hyundai Apartments is a large-scale apartment complex consisting of 82 buildings and 5,679 units. It is considered a symbol that marked the beginning of the golden era of Gangnam. This complex has had a significant influence on the development of Korea‘s apartment culture and, along with the Yeouido Sibeom Apartments, was one of the pioneering projects that popularized privately-owned apartments in South Korea.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government held the 12th Urban Planning Committee’s Subcommittee meeting and passed the redevelopment and planning proposal for the Apgujeong Area 2 district. As a result, the area around the Hyundai Apartments in Apgujeong will be redeveloped into a residential complex with a floor area ratio of 300%, consisting of 12 buildings with 2,606 units (including 321 public housing units).

The highest building will reach 250 meters, comparable to the height of the Yeouido 63 Building in Seoul. The area around Dongho Bridge and Nonhyeon Road will feature buildings between 20 to 39 stories, with a public pedestrian path 8 meters wide, providing access for anyone visiting Apgujeong to easily walk through the area and reach the Han River Park.
