The Area Around Gyeonghuigung Palace In Seoul Is Being Reborn With A New Look

Centered around Gyeonghuigung Palace, the redevelopment project encompasses approximately 130,000 square meters, including the National Meteorological Museum of Korea, Seoul Citizens’ University and its garage, Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, and the Donuimun Museum Village site.

Long-term plans aim to establish a historic and cultural park, ten times the size of Seoul Plaza, by 2035 in the Gyeonghuigung Palace area. Initiating with the construction of a historical garden, the restoration of Hanyang City Walls and Donuimun Gate will encapsulate historical significance, alongside the creation of green spaces for public relaxation, with improvements slated until 2035.

What Is ‘Gyeonghuigung Palace’?

‘Gyeonghuigung Palace’ is a Joseon Dynasty palace located in Seoul, South Korea. It was constructed in the 9th year of King Gwanghae’s reign (1617) and served as a royal palace where ten kings conducted state affairs over generations. Among the five major palaces in Seoul, it is situated to the west.
