Running along the coastlines of Gangneung, Donghae, and Samcheok, the “Sea Train” has been in operation since 2007 and has been used by 1.95 million tourists.

Some Facts About “Sea Trian (바다열차)”

The Sea Train began operation in July 2007 and ran for 16 years, covering 53 kilometers of the beautiful east coast coastline from Gangneung to Jeongdongjin, Mangsang, Mukho, Donghae, Chuam, and Samcheok beaches. The Sea Train, which utilizes old trains, is a special tourist train with all seats facing the sea and wide windows that allow passengers to enjoy the scenery, including the waves of the East Sea and coastal scenery, at a glance.

Reasons For The Suspension

It was said that 14 billion won was needed to replace the old trains. The decision to suspend the trian was made after the Korean Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) and various local governments failed to reach an agreement on how to share the budget.
