The film “The Match,” starring Lee Byung-hun and Yoo Ah-in, will be released on Netflix starting May 8, 2025, and will be available for streaming in over 190 countries worldwide.

The story follows Cho Hun-hyun, a national hero and the first Korean to win the world’s top Go championship, as he takes on a young Go prodigy, Lee Chang-ho, as his apprentice. The film captures the complex mentor-student relationship, the subtle psychological tension, and a thrilling generational clash of masters.

Lee Byung-hun plays the role of Cho Hun-hyun, while Yoo Ah-in portrays Lee Chang-ho. Together, they deliver an intense performance that brings the high-stakes world of Go to life. Originally slated for release on Netflix, The Match was delayed for nearly four years due to lead actor Yoo Ah-in’s drug use allegations. Following his recent suspended sentence in the appeals court, the film was finally released in theaters. It went on to become the second Korean film of 2025 to surpass 2 million viewers.
