The First Korean Musical that Performs in London’s West End: Marie Curie

The Korean original musical ‘Marie Curie,’ produced by a South Korean production company, has made its way to London’s West End for an extended run. This marks the first time a Korean musical is being performed in the London’s West End with local staff and actors in English.

‘Marie Curie’ officially opened at the Charing Cross Theatre in London on June 1, 2024, and the performances will continue until July 28, 2024. Charing Cross Theatre is a historic venue located near Trafalgar Square in the heart of London.

This musical is an original Korean production based on the life of Marie Curie, the first scientist to win the Nobel Prize twice. It portrays the life of Marie Curie, who overcame social prejudices as a female immigrant to achieve greatness as both a scientist and a person.

Having received high praise from domestic audiences, ‘Marie Curie’ has steadily made its way to international stages. It began with a showcase performance in Shanghai, China, in 2019, participated in the ‘The Music Gardens Festival’ in Poland in 2022, where it received a grand prix award, and a licensed production by a Japanese musical company premiered in Tokyo and Osaka in 2023.
