The Installation Artist Kang Ik-joong Becomes the First Korean Artist to Exhibit His Work in front of the Egyptian Pyramids

Installation Artist Kang Ik-joong Will Be The First Korean Artist To Eexhibit His Work In Front Of The Egyptian Pyramids

Kang Ik-joong has been invited to the 2024 edition of ”Forever Is Now,“ a large-scale international art exhibition held annually in the fall in front of the pyramids. This exhibition, supported by the Egyptian government and UNESCO and organized by Art D‘Égypte Culturvator, aims to break the boundaries of international art by inviting contemporary artists to the pyramids. The event draws significant attention, attracting over 1.5 million visitors each year.

This year’s exhibition in front of the pyramids will feature a total of 10 renowned artists from around the world. Kang Ik-joong plans to install a large-scale work titled ”Four Temples,“ inspired by ancient Egyptian temples.

The exterior walls of his installation will be adorned with the lyrics of the traditional Korean folk song ”Arirang“ written in Korean, hieroglyphics, Arabic, and English. Inside, the walls will be filled with more than 5,000 drawings depicting the dreams of people from around the world, including children from Korea and refugee camps.

We look forward to the works of Kang Ik-joong, who always creates new connections using Hangeul as a medium.
