The Korean Idol Group ‘Big Ocean,’ Composed of Hearing Impaired Individuals, Debuted

The three-member South Korean idol group ”Big Ocean“ (@big_ocean.official), composed of hearing-impaired individuals, made their debut stage on April 20th, which was a Disability Day. Their debut song, a remake of H.O.T‘s ”Glow,“ was completed with the help of AI technology that utilized deep learning to replicate each member’s voice.

The choreography of the debut song, incorporating international sign language, reflects the members‘ determination to overcome prejudice against people with disabilities. Anticipations are high for the group to pioneer a new genre called S-Pop, singing in Korean sign language, American Sign Language (ASL), and International Sign Language (ISL), while transcending language barriers and physical limitations.
