According to Mercer’s 2024 Cost of Living report, Hong Kong has topped a global list of the world’s most expensive cities for expatriates.

Hong Kong has been ranked as the most expensive city for expatriates to live in 2022 and 2023 as well. The exorbitant rental prices in Hong Kong have surpassed those in notoriously expensive Swiss cities like Zurich, Basel, Bern, and Geneva. Meanwhile, Seoul dropped 16 places from last year to 32nd.
