The New York Police Department (NYPD) Has Named Its First Korean-American Captain In 178 Years

The NYPD announced the promotion of Captain Huh Jung-yoon of the Queens Metropolitan Precinct to the rank of captain. She will be notified of her next assignment at a promotion ceremony on December 22. Ms. Heo was sworn in as the NYPD’s first Korean American female officer in 1998. Since then, she has served in Korean-American neighborhoods in Manhattan and Queens.
