Every morning, when starting their day, Koreans use the term ”coffee transfusion,“ which means to recharge with caffeine. This coffee usually costs between 1,200 and 2,000 Korean won. There are various options such as Mega Coffee, Compose Coffee, Mammoth Coffee, and convenience store coffee.
On the other hand, there are also many who seek high-end coffee, with places like Starbucks, Intelligentsia, and Bacha Coffee commanding high prices, often ranging from over 5,000 won to well above 10,000 won.
Korea, the third-largest coffee market in the world after China and the U.S., has an average annual per capita coffee consumption of 405 cups, more than twice the global average of 152 cups. Interestingly, as demand for both low-cost and high-end coffee increases, the demand for average or mid-range priced coffee is declining. This trend is evident in the lower performance of brands like Ediya Coffee, which offers coffee in the 3,000 won range.
