Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed, through his country’s intelligence agencies, that North Korea is supplying not only weapons but also manpower to Russia. According to Reuters, President Zelenskyy, addressing the parliament, stated, “North Korea is now part of Putin’s criminal coalition. North Korea is effectively participating in the war on Russia’s side against Ukraine.” Earlier, Ukrainian media reported that among the 20 Russian casualties from a missile attack by Ukrainian forces on the Donetsk Oblast front on the 3rd, six were identified as North Korean soldiers.

Meanwhile, as North Korea recently heightened tensions by claiming that “South Korean drones” entered the skies over Pyongyang to drop anti-North Korean leaflets and blew up parts of inter-Korean roads, Russia appears to be backing North Korea.

Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, made a statement regarding the drone incident, claiming that “Seoul’s actions are a grave violation of North Korean sovereignty and an interference in the internal affairs of an independent state, aimed at dismantling its legitimate political system and depriving it of the right to sovereign development.”
