The South Korean government is enhancing safety measures for large crowds ahead of Halloween. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety of South Korea announced that it will implement a special safety management period from October 25 to November 1, 2024, in preparation for Halloween. This will involve focused management of 27 areas expected to attract large crowds, including Itaewon, Hongdae, and Seongsu in Seoul, as well as Seomyeon in Busan, Dongseong-ro in Daegu, and Jungang-ro in Daejeon.

In addition, the ‘Daegu Halloween Festival,’ which had been the only Halloween festival in Daegu, will be discontinued after six years. Nam-gu Office in Daegu announced that the festival, which began in 2018, will be replaced by a costume festival. This decision reflects the negative perception and public sentiment towards Halloween following the Itaewon tragedy, prompting the change in the nature of the festival starting this year.
