On December 2, 2024, to welcome the Year of the Green Snake in 2025, Korea Post will issue New Year stamps and greeting cards featuring the snake, a symbol of wisdom and transformation. A total of 606,000 New Year stamps will be printed, along with 280,000 souvenir sheets, and 14 types of greeting cards and postcards.
According to Korea Post, the commemorative stamp features a blue snake holding a flower and a snake shedding its skin, symbolizing movement and progress. The snake’s body is printed with holographic ink to express the sparkling hopes for the New Year. The greeting cards, designed with various images of snakes, aim to convey messages of hope and happiness.
In Eastern culture, the snake is revered as one of the twelve zodiac animals that protect the land. It is considered an auspicious creature, believed to guard homes and villages as a guardian spirit. Additionally, snakes have long been associated with wishes for immortality and fertility. In dreams, the appearance of a snake is often interpreted as a good omen, symbolizing wealth, luck, healing, and abundance.
